LaCie d2 Thunderbolt 3 6 TB
Alternative Storage Solutions
Alternative Desktop Drives
If you only need even more storage space:
LaCie d2 Thunderbolt 3, but with size: 10 TB
All other brilliant data identical with test device.
Price tip: at Amazon now only 470 EUR!
Because you can connect them in series, two or more of them are not wrong either.
Alternative Mobile Drives
You prefer the mobile design or have other price ideas?
The following USB mobile drives work very economically without need for external power supply and without Thunderbolt, which is reflected in the favourable price:
WD My Passport (6.4 cm (2.5 inches), USB 3.0), colors: black, silver, blue, red.
Available in the sizes 1 TB (56 EUR), 2 TB (70 EUR), 4 TB (108 EUR), 5 TB (127 EUR).
I have been using one with 1 TB for 5 years.
After a successful market launch, Western Digital added a new My Passport model with metal case (Ultra):
WD Elements Portable (6.4 cm (2.5 inch), USB 3.0), colors: black, silver, blue, red.
Available in the sizes 500 MB (47 EUR!), 750 MB (same price: 47 EUR!), 1 TB (49 EUR), 1.5 TB (60 EUR), 2 TB (70 EUR), 4 TB (about 100 EUR), 5 TB (120 EUR).
I have one of this with 4 TB in operation since 26.05.2020. Review will follow soon (runs without problems as Time Machine backup medium on my new MacBook Air 2020).
I took all prices from the Amazon shop as a guide. There all prices have been lowered more or less strongly in the meantime. I only took direct offers from Amazon into account, so no Marketplace dealers who add extra shipping costs. BTW: At cyberport.de the prices are about the same plus shipping costs.

Look out! The two hard drives in Porsche Design are discontinued models and are no longer marketed. If they are offered to you in a shop, do not buy them now! They were good back then, but the ones on the right from Western Digital are better and cheaper, and have been tried and tested for many years.
Their connecting cable is also not as rigid, which offers more adjustment possibilities. I could not arrange this collection of records differently on the table, also because of the short connection cables. Until now, they all hung on the D-Link DUB-H7 USB hub, USB-A 2.0, which is placed directly under the hard drives.
I have now replaced it with a modern model AmazonBasics USB-Hub, USB-A 3.1, 10 ports (practical test still running).
